Literary archetypes

Hero:
The hero is Gilgamesh. He is godlike, he is 2/3 god and only 1/3 human. He sets out to fight Humbaba. He is the king and in the end there are walls to protect Uruk.
Antihero:
This is also Gilgamesh. He is the antihero because he sets out to find immortality but when he doesn't find it he gives up hope. He sees that he has failed so he sees himself as useless. He lays down behind the wall by himself because he has o hope left.
Wise fool:
The wise fool is Utnupistim. Society wanted immortality and he wasn't looking for it. So when the gods made the flood they chose him to survive. Now he has the secret to immortality and Gilgamesh wants it from him.
Devil:
This is Ishtar. She has a connection with both good and bad. She is the goddess of love and fertility but at the same time the goddess of war. She brings war and evil to everything she does.
Outcast:
The outcast is Iniku. He is an outcast in the beginning because he lives with the animals. Then when the prostitute comes the animals outcast him because he sleeps with her.
"His friends
Had left him to a vast aloneness
He had never felt before. The lions returned
To the mountains, the water buffalo
To the rivers, the birds to the sky (18)". 
Double:
The double is immortality. Immortality is both good and bad. The gods are immortal. It gives you a sense of your place if you know that you are going to die. It lets you know that you are underneath the gods. When people start to seek immortality the gods get mad because that is like the people are saying that they are just as good as the gods are.
Scapegoat:
The scapegoat is Eniku. He is the scapegoat because the gods chose him to die because one of them needs to die and Gilgamesh is part god so they wont kill him. Society isn't ready for him. They think he is weird because he is like an animal.
Temptress: 
This is the prostitute. She goes to Eniku. She is unknown and he doesn't know how to act. She destroys his relationship with the animals because they sleep together. The prostitute turns him into a man and he meets Gilgamesh and ends up dying. She temps him to go with the humans and it ends up destroying him.
Good mother:
Ninsun is the good mother. When Gilgamesh has dreams he goes to her and she tells him the meanings of it. She gives Eniku and Gilgamsh guidance and encourages them to do what they believe in. So she helps them get the stregth  to go off and fight Humbaba
